On October 2nd, the ROCTEL team, accompanied by our Cisco partners Stephen Ellison and Soura Lanusse Diallo, was excited to attend and exhibit at the Business Post Cybersecurity Summit 2025, hosted at Croke Park, Dublin. The event brought together leading voices from across the tech and security landscape to discuss critical issues in cybersecurity, from regulatory shifts to AI-driven threats.

As Ireland's only Cisco-Powered and Premier Managed Service Provider, our mission at ROCTEL is to help businesses navigate this evolving threat landscape with confidence. The summit gave us an incredible opportunity to exchange ideas, showcase our ROCSOLID Cyber Defence solution, and learn from peers, partners, and pioneers.

What We Learned: 2025 Cybersecurity Trends

This year’s summit made one thing clear: cybersecurity is no longer just an IT concern. It’s now a board-level conversation.

Key trends shaping the 2025 threat landscape include:

  • AI-Powered Threats: Generative AI and deepfakes are increasingly used in social engineering attacks. Businesses must train staff to spot impersonation and invest in smart, layered defences.
  • Supply Chain Vulnerabilities: More attacks are targeting third-party vendors. Regulatory frameworks are requiring businesses to prove resilience across their supply chains.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Visibility: As more organisations move to the cloud, tools like Cisco ThousandEyes are critical for gaining real-time visibility across network layers. The recent AWS outage showed how powerful ThousandEyes is for monitoring global disruptions.

Regulation Spotlight: NIS2 & DORA in 2025

Some of the most discussed topics were the NIS2 Directive and the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA):

  • NIS2 requires "essential" and "important" businesses to report incidents, implement robust security controls, and manage third-party risk. It applies to sectors like transport, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.
  • DORA focuses on financial institutions and their ICT providers, demanding operational resilience, incident reporting, and cybersecurity testing.

For Irish SMBs and enterprise organisations alike, compliance is no longer optional. Cybersecurity has become a core pillar of business strategy.

Best Practices: Culture, Technology & People

A key takeaway from the event? Technology alone isn’t enough. Cybersecurity is a people and culture issue.

  • Invest in Awareness: Regular staff training and phishing simulations reduce the likelihood of human error.
  • Adopt Zero Trust: Assume breach and verify everything. Cisco’s Duo plays a big role here with MFA and device trust.
  • Use Threat Intelligence: Platforms like Cisco Talos give organisations a head start in identifying and blocking threats.
  • Layer Your Security: Combine firewall, endpoint, DNS, and access controls. Cisco Umbrella and SecureX provide seamless integration across layers.

ROCSOLID Cyber Defence: End-to-End Protection

At the event, we showcased ROCSOLID Cyber Defence — ROCTEL’s fully managed cybersecurity service.

It combines Cisco’s industry-leading tools with 24/7 monitoring from our in-house SOC and NMC to protect your infrastructure at every level. Whether you're facing ransomware, insider threats, or cloud misconfigurations, ROCSOLID Cyber Defence is built to respond and recover fast.

CityJet Interview: Cybersecurity in Aviation

After the event, ROCTEL CEO Cormac Reid sat down for a post-summit conversation with Mark Ryan, Head of IT at CityJet. Their discussion focused on cybersecurity in the aviation sector, the importance of fostering a security-first culture, and lessons learned in implementing best practices at scale.

Looking Ahead

We left the Business Post Cybersecurity Summit feeling energised and inspired. It was a day of meaningful conversations, new connections, and powerful insights that reaffirmed our mission.

Cybersecurity is complex — but it doesn’t have to be chaotic. With the right partners, the right mindset, and the right tools, every business can take back control of their digital resilience.
